Assessment criteria
General grants
In the event that applications for grants exceed the funds available, the following scoring system will be used to allocate awards.
Scoring System for Grants
- 3 Points: Country of origin of presenting author (other than outreach countries) is low, lower-middle or upper-middle income country as defined by World Bank 2009
- 2 Points: EU or EU accession country (except Portugal – See: Gulbenkian foundation grants below)
- 2 Points: Country underrepresented at ESCAIDE during previous years (Outreach Country). Please note: if the country of origin is one of those targeted by the outreach project an additional 2 points will be assigned to the application
- 1 Point: Other country
Applicants with the highest number of points will be given preference if there are more applicants than grants. The country of presenter is defined as the country specified in the affiliation given for that author in the abstract.
In evaluating the applications the committee will also consider if all the applying countries are represented in the assignment of grants, and also if the abstract is accepted as an oral or as a poster. Oral presentations and Posters have the same scientific value; however we are aware the attendance of oral presenters is strictly necessary in order to present their work.
Gulbenkian foundation grants
These grants are available to presenters whose affiliation for the abstract authorship purpose is Portugal. If there are more applicants than grants available, the first 4 points of the above scoring system for grants will apply. Portuguese applications will automatically use this source for the travel grants.
