Best Job Offer Ever: EAN Board Elections 2010
Dear EAN Friends,
This is to bring you up-to-date with the preliminary arrangements for this year's EAN General Assembly (GA), especially the EAN Board elections.
General Assembly
Like last year the GA will be held during the ESCAIDE (www.escaide.eu, Lissabon, Portugal, 11-13 November 2010). The exact location of the room, the date and the time will be announced later.
Election
Three out of the six board posts are up for election, as their current holders had to withdraw, or rather were withdrawn by babies and new jobs. These posts are:
- Vice-President
- Secretary One
- Secretary Two
It is an honour to be in the board of EAN, as we represent the largest group of intervention epidemiologists in Europe. This is of huge potential considering the need and current activities for professionalisation and continuous professional development, the surge capacity we can provide and our living demonstration of the added value of EPIET and FETP training.
As a board member, you will be involved in EAN's regular and ad-hoc activities (see below). The board usually has a telephone meeting once per month, with an annual physical board meeting in December/January, to set the agenda. Further details on board duties can be found in the statutes (attached).
Standing for election
If you are interested to stand for election, please let us know before the 28th of October (two weeks before ESCAIDE) by writing to eanboard@gmail.com, specifying which of the three positions (Vice-President, Secretary One & Two) you are standing for. Alternatively, you can make your candidacy known in person to us just prior to the GA - note that this doesn't allow getting any delegated votes (see below). In consultation with the candidates, a list of members standing for each position will be presented during the GA.
Voting
We will disseminate the list of candidates to all members on 29th October, so that not attending members can delegate their vote. Each EAN Member attending the GA can be delegated up to 5 votes by non-attending members (on a signed paper). The ballot count will be held at the end of the GA. The members of the Board shall be chosen from amongst and by the active (the ones who paid the fee!) EAN members. Currently trained fellows (cohort 15 and 16) are excluded, sorry. Decisions are taken by an absolute majority of votes of the attending and officially represented active members. If the vote is split, the president has the casting vote. For the election of a new Board to be valid, at least 25% of the active members should be present or represented at the General Assembly during the vote. Election is by simple majority of votes (see statutes).
Membership Fee
Please remember to pay your annual membership fee (€20), which is due BEFORE the general assembly. Only members who have paid the fee are allowed to vote.
We kindly ask you to contact the EAN Board (Eanboard@gmail.com) or the EAN Treasurers, Helen Bernard (bernardh@rki.de) and Christopher Williams (kitwilliams@doctors.org.uk) in case you want to get information on your membership payment.
