GOARN Request for assistance: Pandemic influenza A(H1N1), Multiple locations in the Caribbean
Background: The WHO/PAHO Office requests the assistance of GOARN Partners to support the ongoing outbreak control efforts in the Americas in the face of the current Pandemic (H1N1) 09 virus outbreak.Efforts are ongoing at WHO/PAHO to support field deployments in the Caribbean. At present, WHO/ PAHO has received requests for technical assistance from countries like Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. Due to the spread and evolution of the A(H1N1) virus in the sub region, these requests are only expected to increase in the coming weeks and months. To this end, the following expertise are requested, to enhance the capacities of CAREC- the major surveillance and response network in this sub region. CAREC is also a GOARN partner network. 1) TWO Field Epidemiologist 2) TWO Virologists/ Microbiologists with past experience on Flu viruses. Detailed terms of reference will be made available shortly.
Duration: The duration of the mission would be one to two months.
Location: The candidates will be based at the CAREC office in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and will work under the responsibility of the CAREC Director.
Scope: The candidates will be working to support response activities in 21 CAREC Member countries and territories (English and Dutch speaking). See website for more details www.carec.org.
Language: Fluency in English essential. Proficiency in Dutch is an asset.
