Pneumococcal Surveillance Project : *The post-holder will be responsible for
managing the epidemiological conduct of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate
vaccine effectiveness case-control study. S/he will supervise a team of
field staff. S/he will provide clinical support to the team of clinicians
that staff the Bansang Hospital paediatric ward. S/he will be part of the
pneumococcal vaccine evaluation team in Basse, and also be involved in a
range of related clinical and research activities. S/he will be based in
Bansang and will conduct research activities in Central and Upper River
Regions of The Gambia. S/he will be a part of a team involved in a wider
programme of research within the Child Survival Theme of the Unit.

*4) Research Clinician, MRC laboratories, The Gambia: Pneumococcal
Surveillance Project : *The post-holder will be responsible for assessment,
investigation, management and documentation of patients admitted to the
Bansang Hospital paediatric ward. S/he will work with the team of clinicians
who staff the Bansang Hospital paediatric ward. S/he will supervise the
enrolment of cases in the case-control study and supervise a team of nurses
and X-ray staff working on the case-control study at Bansang. S/he will be
part of the pneumococcal surveillance team. S/he will be based in Bansang
and will conduct research activities in Central and Upper River Regions of
The Gambia.
