*Professor (W2-S) in Epidemiological Modelling of Infectious
Diseases, The Humboldt University (HU), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural
Sciences I, Institute of Biology, and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI),
Berlin:* with a start date of April, 1st 2012 for a five year term with the
possibility of an extension following performance evaluation. The position
is subject to the availability of funding. Salary is based on experience in
accordance with existing guidelines.

The professor will be expected to establish and head a new scientific
research group in mathematical modeling of infectious diseases transmission
based at the RKI. The successful candidate will be simultaneously appointed
as a professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences I of the
HU. The professor will be expected to collaborate on existing and new
research projects with the Institute of Biology and the Interdisciplinary
Center for Infection Biology and Immunity of the HU.

The expected research areas include the dynamic modelling of infectious
diseases spread among the general human population and at the level of
medical institutions as well as modelling of diseases transmission between
humans and animals. The successful candidate will be expected to participate
in the HU teaching activities for two hours per week per semester with a
teaching focus preferably in the area of theoretical biology and biophysics.

In accordance with the regulations of the § 100 of the Berlin Higher
Education Act (Hochschulgesetz Berlin), applicants must hold a PhD degree in
natural sciences and have a substantial postdoctoral experience. An
outstanding record of international research achievements in the field of
modelling of infectious diseases is required. Experience in
interdisciplinary cooperation and the ability to lead a scientific working
group is expected. Candidates need to have experience in applying for and
managing externally funded research projects.
